It’s been an incredibly busy and successful summer for Inclusic, with the organisation delivering 4, week-long performance and song-writing courses for the young people of Wolverhampton!
Summer Rockschool
The ever popular Summer Rockschool project at Newhampton Arts Centre, was busier than ever with 2 full weeks of music making and fun, supported by professional musicians. As well as lots of games and fun, the young people taking part had the chance to try different instruments, develop their music skills and work together to learn their favourite songs to perform to an audience at the end of the week.
Both weeks were a roaring success and feedback from participants and parents alike has been excellent -
Parent feedback
“I just wanted to email and say thank you so much to all the staff/teachers for putting on the Music week at the Newhampton Arts Centre a couple of weeks ago. My son Jacob attended the second week and despite being the youngest by far, he absolutely loved it. The teachers were fantastic and it was so well organised. It really helped him to grow in confidence, not just with his music but socially too thanks to the lovely supportive atmosphere and warm up games. He is already counting down to the next one!” Emma Gardener
“Just wanted to say what a fantastic end of week concert. Ewan has been coming to Rock school now for about 4 years, he never needs any encouragement to come and has a truly fabulous experience each time he attends and making good friends. Your Rock schools were definitely the start of his love for playing guitar and one of the reasons he is now considering a career in the music industry” Margot Cox Participant feedback
“I have really enjoyed playing different instruments like the drums and the bass. I have loved playing games, meeting new people and making friends” Millie
“My confidence has grown from working with new people and my playing ability has improved” Ollie
The Lockdown Songwriting club
As well as delivering the Summer Rockschool, Inclusic’s Lockdown Songwriting Club has also been in full swing in community centres across the city, giving young people the opportunity to write, record and perform their own songs, drawing inspiration from their experiences of Lockdown life.
The Youth Music funded project has recently concluded with 3 busy and successful days at RML studios, where the young people had the chance to record their songs professionally with Studio manager and producer Ryan Pinson.
The songs are incredible and we look forward to sharing them with the partcipants once they are mixed and mastered. Here’s what some of the participants had to say about the project.
“I have enjoyed the opportunity to learn how to write my own music with other people, and learn about their favourite pieces and styles of music. I think the lockdown songwriting club is one of the best places to expand your social and musical skills” Nyah
“I have enjoyed making friends and working with them” Neo
“The recording studio was amazing, I loved that day” Derry
“I have enjoyed writing and performing music” Michelle
And finally Gail Reynolds, Stratton street community centre co-ordinator writes
“I've just got to the point of completing the summer holiday activity program for the kids at Stratton Street. I just couldn't go on my leave without extending my gratitude to you for the wonderful team you of musicians that you sent led by Niall. Please let them know how very much they were appreciated and we will always remain grateful for the positive impact they make on the lives of our youngsters.”
What an incredible summer, we can’t wait till next year.
